One question that I'm asked frequently is: "how did you get started with sewing?"

Well, let me tell you my story. Unlike many people who learned sewing from their grandparents or started at a young age, my story is a bit different. It all began one year before Halloween when I decided to dress up as Cruella De Vil. I had most of the required garments in my closet, but I needed a white fur coat to complete my costume. I didn't want to buy a real fur coat, and the ones at Halloween stores looked cheap, tacky and inaccurate (she wore a plain white fur coat and not a dalmatian print). Therefore, I decided to have one made for me by a tailor.

Unfortunately, the cost of a made-to-measure coat was too expensive for my budget. So, I thought to myself, "how hard can it be to make a coat?" I went across the street to the sewing store, bought a sewing machine, and began my sewing journey.

Although I didn't have any experience sewing, I was determined to make that coat. However, despite my best efforts, I wasn't able to make it then. And I still haven't made it years later!!! Nevertheless, that experience sparked my passion for sewing, and I've been learning and sewing ever since.

It's fascinating how a simple desire to create a costume can lead to discovering a new passion. Who knows, maybe one Halloween, I'll finally make that white fur coat and turn my dream costume into a reality.
